Medicare Cost Reporting

A Medicare Cost Report includes detailed financial and statistical data about the provider’s operations. This typically enclose revenue, costs, utilization data, capital expenditures, and other relevant financial information necessary to determine the cost of providing healthcare services.

Medicare Cost Reports are generally due five months after the end of the provider’s fiscal year. For example, if a provider’s fiscal year ends on December 31st, the cost report would be due by May 31st of the following year.

If a provider fails to submit their Medicare Cost Report on time, CMS may withhold Medicare payments until the report is filed.
